Our story

Designer’s note:

Studio 149 is a brand that makes exclusive couture for women focusing on nuances in cuts, eclectic mix of the right fabrics, aesthetic silhouettes, contemporary drapes and very fine embellishment. It focuses on the nature of the women who wear the clothes so that the creations can compliment them and give them confidence to face the world. In an era where one goes by fashion trends, which suit only a handful, Studio 149 strives to make clothes that suit different personalities and body types, at the same time being stylish & chic.

Blouses to match your Kancheevaram saris you would be wearing on your D-days, Lehengas for the reception, sangeet or a friend's wedding, Gowns for the bride and bridesmaids, Customised saris with stories you want to say - You come to us with your ideas and we can work together on creating that perfect look for you.

Being an architect by profession, I see a lot of similarity in different fields of deign – be it fashion, graphics, products, interiors or buildings. I truly believe -“Design transcends all fields”.

The love for clothes started at a very young age and it was always a process of making them rather than buying what was available. Being an overweight kid, I could never find clothes off the rack that would suit me. So, it was natural for me to select fabric, decide on the cuts & colours and design entire outfits ranging from Indian party wear to western casuals. Though today there is a wide market range and something for everyone in store, the happiness that you get out of making an outfit exclusively for yourself cannot be matched.

What I strive to make at Studio 149 is exclusive hand-crafted outfits that would be unique and timeless, which women would be proud of owning and wearing. I find beauty in a lot of things around me that inspire me to make new stuff every day. The constant urge to innovate and produce something new everyday just keeps getting better with a skillful and talented team who work along with me to help me execute my ideas.
